Citi's welcome ladder runs to 31 January 2027 — AED 300 to AED 1,500, and only the two entry cards come out ahead in year one

Citibank UAE's joining-bonus table now covers five cards, from AED 300 on the Cash Back and Rewards cards to AED 1,500 on the Ultima, each against a 60-day spend target. The terms date it to 31 January 2027. Set the bonus against the annual fee and only the fee-free cards net a gain.

Citibank UAE has a joining-bonus ladder across its card range, and for once the bank has put the whole thing in one table. The “Key Conditions” block at the foot of its credit-cards page, read on 15 September 2026, sets out a statement credit per card against a spend target to be met within 60 days. The welcome-offer terms, dated July 2026, give it an end date: “available until January 31, 2027, or discontinuation of the offer, whichever comes first.”

The ladder, as published

CardJoining bonusSpend within 60 daysAnnual feeMinimum salary
Citi UltimaAED 1,500AED 25,000AED 3,000AED 36,750
Citi PrestigeAED 1,000AED 15,000AED 1,500AED 30,000
Citi PremierAED 750AED 10,000AED 750AED 15,000
Citi RewardsAED 300AED 6,000AED 0 in year oneAED 8,000
Citi Cash BackAED 300AED 6,000AED 0 in year oneAED 8,000

Fees and salary floors are from the same page’s card tiles. Five per cent VAT applies on top of every fee. The Rewards and Cash Back cards are free in year one and free from year two on AED 9,000 of annual spend; otherwise AED 300 applies.

One gap in the bank’s own table: the Citi Rewards row is printed with no amount. The card’s product page states AED 300 on AED 6,000, the same as the Cash Back card, and that is the figure above.

What the bonus is worth once the fee is paid

The bonus is a statement credit. The fee is a charge. Put them on the same line for the first year:

  • Ultima: AED 1,500 credit against an AED 3,000 fee. You are AED 1,500 down before VAT, having spent AED 25,000 to get there.
  • Prestige: AED 1,000 against AED 1,500. AED 500 down.
  • Premier: AED 750 against AED 750. Level, before VAT.
  • Rewards and Cash Back: AED 300 against nothing. AED 300 up.

On the premium cards the joining bonus is a partial fee rebate, not a gain, and the case for those cards rests on what you would use the lounge, hotel-night and Miles benefits for anyway. On the two entry cards the AED 300 is real money for AED 6,000 of spend you would have made regardless, which is a 5 per cent return on that spend, once.

The conditions that disqualify people

The same three restrictions as the Cash Back bonus we covered in August, plus one from the terms document:

  • Direct applications only. The page states it on every card: “Applicants reaching Citi website through a web search advert or any third party link do not qualify.” Type the address in yourself.
  • New to Citi cards only. Existing cardholders and staff are out.
  • No Citi card closed in the last 24 months (terms, clause 5).
  • One sign-up offer per person. The ladder does not stack with any other promotion, and the Simplicity card is excluded.

Payout timing is stated two ways. The page says the credit posts “within 45 days of meeting the minimum spend”; the terms say “within 30 working days”. Those are close to the same thing in practice. Treat 45 calendar days as the outside case and query it after that.

The page furniture has not caught up

The offer copy on each card is consistent. The metadata around it is not. The page title for the Rewards card still says “AED 150 Joining Bonus”; the Premier’s description says “up to AED 350”; the Prestige’s says “AED 600”; the credit-cards page describes itself as “up to AED 1,250” while its own hero says AED 1,500. Those are search-result strings from earlier cycles. Go by the Key Conditions table and the bullet on the product page, which agree with each other and with the terms.

The practical read

If you earn AED 8,000 or more and do not hold a Citi card, the Cash Back or Rewards card is a clean AED 300 for spend you were going to put on a card anyway, with no fee to claw it back. Our Cash Back review covers the earn rates. The premium tiers are a different decision: pay the fee for the benefits, and treat the bonus as a discount on it. Nothing here needs doing this week; the window runs to the end of January.

Verified against Citibank UAE’s credit-cards page, the four product pages linked above and the welcome-offer terms (July 2026), all read on 15 September 2026.
