Qatar Privilege Club is the loyalty programme of Qatar Airways. It moved from proprietary Qmiles to Avios in 2022, aligning with the British Airways / Iberia / Aer Lingus / Finnair family — though the four programmes remain separate with their own award charts and expiry rules. For UAE residents, Privilege Club is the closest non- Emirates pathway to a top-tier Business product (Qsuite, ex-DOH, an hour up the road) and the most flexible loyalty currency in the region.
Tier structure
Privilege Club runs four published tiers — Burgundy, Silver, Gold and Platinum — plus the published-but-rarely-seen Platinum Plus. Tier earning is via “Qpoints”, a status-currency separate from Avios and earned only on Qatar / Oneworld paid flights. Silver matches into Oneworld Ruby; Gold into Oneworld Sapphire (lounge access plus extra baggage); Platinum into Oneworld Emerald (First-class lounges, priority on every leg). Gold is the meaningful tier for most UAE residents who fly Qatar three or four long-hauls a year.
Who Qatar Privilege Club suits
Earning into Privilege Club Avios makes sense for a UAE resident in two profiles:
- You take long-haul Business once or twice a year and value the hard product over the airline. Qsuite beats Emirates Business and Etihad Business on a per-seat-class basis. A 1-hour positioning hop to Doha (DXB → DOH is AED 400–600 cash, or a cheap Avios redemption in itself) is a low cost to pay for the seat.
- You want a transferable Oneworld currency. Avios in Privilege Club redeems across BA, Iberia, Cathay, JAL, Qantas, Royal Jordanian and others — broader partner reach than Skywards or Guest Miles can offer.
How to earn from the UAE
Direct co-brand: the Mashreq Qatar Privilege Club Visa Infinite and Visa Signature, currently the only Avios-into-Privilege-Club earners issued in the UAE. Earn rates cluster around 1.0–2.0 Avios per AED 1 on the card, with multipliers on Qatar-booked airfare and at Qatar Duty Free.
Indirect: Marriott Bonvoy → Avios at 3:1 plus 5,000-Avios bonus per 60,000 points transferred — the single best route into the currency for most UAE residents, because Bonvoy can be earned through multiple UAE-issued credit cards and through every paid Marriott stay in Dubai. Qatar also runs frequent transfer bonuses from hotel programmes (commonly 30–50% on Bonvoy transfers, three or four times a year) — worth waiting for.
What to watch
The 2024 Privilege Club refresh introduced dynamic Avios pricing on a subset of routes, particularly peak-season DOH → London and DOH → Bangkok. Saver-level pricing still exists on most routes but clears fast 30 days out. Set up the Qatar award-search alerts before you transfer Bonvoy points in.
The other watch-item is the Avios pooling-and-combining mechanic: in 2023, BA, Iberia and Qatar enabled the ability to combine Avios across the four programmes — meaning if you hold 30,000 BA Avios and want to redeem 70,000 on a Qatar award, you can move BA Avios into Privilege Club at 1:1 to top up. The combining mechanic is unidirectional in some cases and carries periodic outage windows; do not rely on it as a same-day fix, and check Qatar’s current pooling-and-combining rules across the four Avios programmes before moving a balance.
